Family Day in Disneyland

The third Monday in February in the Province of Ontario is “Family Day”, a fairly new holiday that allows a much needed long weekend in the middle of the long, cold winters of Canada.  This year, my husband and I were travelling on his business trip in California and were able amidst the business to spend our “Family Day” vacation in the original “Happiest Place on Earth” ~ Disneyland in Anaheim, CA.

Because we were in the area for business we stayed off property but there are many “good neighbour”  hotels in the Anaheim area  close to Disneyland.   Some hotel rooms actually overlook Disney, such as north-facing rooms in the Hilton Anaheim, where you can watch fireworks from your room balcony…

or from Embassy Suites Anaheim South, where you can enjoy an expansive view of both Disney parks and the surrounding California mountains…

One of the newest attractions in Disney’s California Adventure Park is Cars Land where kids of all ages can visit Radiator Springs and their favourite characters from Disney’s “Cars” movie.

Be sure to grab a FastPass for the highlight of Cars Land, Radiator Springs Racers.  We waited in line for 2 hours without a FastPass.

Although the wait was long the ride was wonderful and we didn’t regret the long wait.

Kids can enjoy other rides like Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree or Luigi’s Flying Tires, as well as get their pictures taken with characters from the movie Cars while visiting Radiator Springs.

Hungry while visiting Radiator Springs?  Be sure to visit Flo’s V8 Cafe for a meal or Fillmore’s Taste In for a quick snack.

The remainder of our day we enjoyed the benefits of our One Day Park Hopper pass and made our way over to Magic Kingdom for the afternoon parade ~ Mickey’s Soundsational Parade

We finished off our one day visit with a few last minute rides over at Paradise Pier before heading back to our hotel.  Tired and delighted after another wonderful visit to the Magical Land of Disney!
